Residential ducted evaporative cooling

Just like a sea breeze keeps you cool at the beach on a hot day, evaporative air conditioning systems use the power of evaporation to cool your home. The evaporative process relies on airflow, with cool air entering through ducts and then exiting via open doors or windows. Only 100% fresh air is circulating, rather than stale and recycled air. As the fan draws outside air though the cooling pads, not only is it chilled but the air is also filtered from impurities.

How it works

Based on the simple principles of evaporation, hot and dry outside air is pumped through water-soaked pads called Chillcel® pads. As the air blows through the Chillcel pads, the water is evaporated and the heat in the air is absorbed, which lowers the air temperature. A fan then pushes the cool air through the ducting system. Breezair cooling units feature a patented centrifugal fan, which can be used in fan only mode (no water) to blow fresh air through your home.

It is important to remember that cooled air inside the building is not recirculated, so a door or window must be left open for this air to escape, providing the whole building with a complete change in air at least every two minutes.

Zoning

Adding zonal control to a ducted evaporative cooling system, is definitely not recommended. Evaporative cooling systems are designed to be a full flow operation, which simply means that in order for it to obtain maximum performance, there should be no restrictions within the system. Also, it should be noted that the high air volumes associated with ducted evaporative cooling, would render a zone control to be ineffective.

Benefits

  • Dry air from refrigerated air conditioners can aggravate allergies and asthma. Evaporative air conditioning systems use moisture to cool the air and won’t dry your skin, nose or eyes.
  • Only 100% fresh air is circulating, rather than stale and recycled air.

Maintenance

  • Regular servicing will prolong the life of your evaporative cooler.
  • A service every 2 years is recommended to ensure your evaporative cooler operates efficiently.
  • Evaporative cooler is a warm and wet environment which can be a breeding ground for bacteria if neglected for too long.
